… for summer, and Wanstead Church School held a series of events to mark the occasion.
Wednesday saw the now annual Mothers Union end of term picnic in the gardens of Christ Church. The weather had threatened to be inclement, but the sun shone through and parents and children all had a marvellous time.
On Thursday the whole school joined together for an end of term Eucharist. The day before, Year 6 held their own Eucharist as they bade goodbye to primary school and embark upon a new journey with their secondary schools.
Today (Friday) – the final school assembly honoured the memory of Wanstead’s beloved and much missed lollipop man, Derek Jarvis, with a rousing selection of songs, psalms, readings and prayers. The children took turns to read out their own personal memories of Derek.
With school starting their break today, there will also be some changes to our church schedule. The Parish office will be closed for the week commencing 31st July and will then be open 9am-3pm on the following dates – 26th July, 9th, 16th, 23rd, 30th, August and 4th Sept. Normal opening will resume on 6th September.
Durung the summer break effective today, there will be no Junior Church at Christ Church, and no Sunday School at St. Mary’s. Nursery Church will continue to meet at 930am on Sundays, with the exception of the dates listed below. There will also be a slight change to our Family Eucharist 530pm service schedule.
Saturdays 29th July, 5th & 12th August no 530pm service
Sundays 20th & 27th August no 930am Nursery Church.
Grapevine will also be taking a break, returning in September. Have a good summer, everyone!
Postscript: on Friday afternoon Wanstead Church School received the wonderful news that Ofsted had awarded them a much deserved ‘Outstanding’ rating. Huge congratulations to Mr. Hemsley and all of the teaching staff.
