The summer break is over, and Wanstead Parish have several events coming your way this month, with something for everyone.
The annual Wanstead Fringe kicks off on Saturday 8th September, and our parish will be the venue for several events, including a recital and cream tea (see below), Junior Comedy event, and the end of Fringe Kinema with an open air showing of Paddington 2 in the gardens of Christ Church. See the Fringe website for more info and tickets.
Concurrently, the Wanstead Festival will take place over the weekend of 15/16th Sept. The weekend will include a flower festival in Christ Church, and music over the two days including a recital at 2pm on the Saturday called “Sea Pictures” featuring music by Schubert, Debussy, Robert and Clara Schumann and others. The recital will given by Ulrike Wutscher (mezzo-soprano and wife of our own Father Christoph) and Marzia Hudajorova (piano). Tickets are £15 and will include a cream tea.
There will also a Friends’ garden party on the Sunday in Christ Church gardens, with bar, donkey rides, face painting, bouncy castle and much more besides.
That weekend also sees Tom Britt, our new curate, ordained Deacon at Chelmsford Cathedral on Saturday 15th September at 6pm. This is a public service and everyone is very welcome to come. Tom will be officially welcomed into the Parish after Choral Evensong, at 6pm, on Sunday 16th September.
On 22/23rd September, both St Mary’s & Christ Church will be open 10am-3pm as part of the London wide Open House Weekend. At St Mary’s there will be talks, walks, activities, refreshments and much, much more on Saturday 22nd, and live music on Sunday afternoon. Christ Church will be open for visitors on both days.
